A new partnership between Carvico and Livia Sciorilli Borrelli’s upcycling projects.

In her artistic research, Livia Sciorilli Borrelli breathes new life into waste materials, giving them new meaning and continuity. This fil rouge has identified her signature creative voice for five decades.
Her latest tapestry, Take Nothing for Granted, has been created by using Carvico fabric scraps, originally destined to be disposed of.
Woven through crochet—the technique at the very heart of her artistic research—the 123x131cm tapestry takes viewers on an intimate journey into personal memory and the subconscious, transforming individual experience into a collective narrative. Behind every centimeter lie hours of work and repeated gestures: a near-meditative practice that serves both as a path for inner exploration and an invitation to shared connection.
This brand-new project, open to change and transformation, may vary over time to become truly unique, celebrating the value of imperfection, echoing the philosophy of the Japanese art of Kintsugi.

Who is Livia Sciorilli Borrelli
Born and brought up in Rome, with a degree in mathematics, Livia Sciorilli Borrelli has lived for over ten years in the Tuscan countryside. There, she started her artistic journey, which gave a shape to what was originally only a leisure activity: upcycling.
Her ability to rework waste materials remains as the defining element of her artistic journey. Unraveling old creations, repurposing production leftovers, and breathing new life into what seemed long forgotten—this is her ethos, brought to life through the medium of yarn.
This choice was also driven by a personal component. Her mother came from a German dynasty of entrepreneurs operating in the textile industry who settled in Italy at the beginning of the twentieth century, and Livia has inherited a passion for fabrics that feel like a cuddle on the skin.
At the core of her practice lies a profound aversion to wasting both materials and time. Yet, serendipity plays a vital role: whenever something sparks her imagination, even a fleeting color combination, it ignites a desire to translate that inspiration into a brand-new creation. She loves translating emotions into artworks, choosing their subject, color and size, and allowing herself to change her mind along the way on the basis of how the final creation comes together. Original projects can be modified, and possible imperfections contribute to the uniqueness of each piece.
The partnership with Carvico demonstrates how the textile industry and artistic research can converge around a shared vision of upcycling: giving waste materials a new meaning and a second life. What production classifies as residue becomes, in the hands of the artist, a vehicle for narrative and memory.
Take Nothing for Granted has been selected as a title to the latest creation of the artist since it summarizes Livia Sciorilli Borrelli vision: it is an invitation to look at what we discard with fresh eyes, only to discover that it still has a story to tell.
