The 4th July 2010 will remain an indelible memory in the hearts of many cycling and nature lovers, a wonderful day of sunshine and sport in Alta Badia.
The long-awaited 24th edition of the Maratona Dles Dolomites attracted thousands of cyclists from all over the world to ride over the most beautiful passes in the Dolomites: Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Falzarego and Giau. Carvico was present at Italy’s most prestigious granfondo as the event’s official sponsor. Each of the 9,271 athletes entered in the race received a Maratona Dles Dolomites 2010, waistcoat in VUELTA by Carvico, a techno-fabric with soft brushing that makes it a great thermal insulator, allows natural sweat evaporation and optimal freedom of movement. A valuable ally in all three race routes, which started at La Villa and finished at Corvara: the 55km Sellaronda route with a 1780 metres elevation gain, the 106km medium route with a 3090 elevation gain and the 138km marathon route with a 4190 elevation gain. Among the 753 women who crossed the finish line, special acclaim goes to Laura Colnaghi Calissoni, President of the Carvico Group, who achieved an excellent result, placing 2nd in her category in the 55km route with a time of 2:45.30 and 6th overall. Giorgio Cavallini, a Carvico area manager, also kept brought honour to the company’ name in this successful event, completing the 106km route in 5:02.07 with an average of 21 km/h, and placing 119th in his category (Men 37-42 years of age). Armed with Carvico-style competitive spirit and love of sport, Ms. Colnaghi and Giorgio Cavallini measured up to champions of the calibre of Antonio Rossi, Yuri Chechi, Mario Cipollini, Isolde Kostner, Fabrizio Ravanelli and the many famous personalities present, from Paolo Garimberti to Rodolfo De Benedetti. The exciting race wound through the splendid setting of the Dolomites, a scene of unequalled beauty that has been declared a UNESCO natural heritage site. Precisely because of the wonderful context in which it takes place, all communication regarding the Maratona Dles Dolomites focused on the importance of ecology and sustainable development. It is no coincidence that it is recognized as the first sporting competition with “carbon neutrality”, compensating almost totally for the emissions it produces, thanks also the use of biodegradable water bottles. As in previous years, the event was also linked to a charitable cause. Locally, the 2010 edition will support the Sporthilfe association of Bolzano, which funds talented young athletes’ participation in competitions, and internationally, the “Clean Water” project set up by the non-profit organization “Insieme si Può”, which aims to build new wells in Uganda.
