Glossary

In a technical sector such as the warp-knitted fabrics industry, the terminology used is often unfamiliar, especially for the end consumers who, generally speaking, will not know the meaning behind the symbols that appear on their clothing labels, and as such, cannot be aware of their merits and advantages.

By putting together a glossary full of technical terms and recurring acronyms, Carvico SpA aims to provide clear definitions of some of the more specific textile terminology.

P.B.T.

Polyester derivative synthetic fibre that can be used, in the textured version, to give elasticity to fabrics.

PERFECT FIT

The fabric elasticity moulds to the body without be constricting, allowing the best freedom in movements.

POLYAMIDE

Synthetic fibre derived from the polymerisation of caprolactam.

POLYESTER

Polyester is a category of polymers which contain the ester functional group in their main chain. Although there are many polyesters, the term "polyester" as a specific material most commonly refers to polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

POLYPROPYLENE

Also know as "warm fibre" thanks to the pleasant sensation of wellbeing, the warm and dry feeling it offers, polypropylene is the best polymer for protection against humidity and is a tough natural barrier against cold. Hollow polypropylene is also extremely light, water repellent, bacteria-proof and guarantees a high level of comfort and hygienic protection when in contact with the skin.

PILLING RESISTANT

Fabric that is always smooth and pleasant to the touch. Tests demonstrate that it resists to abrasions and pilling, with the highest value of 5.
